The Best Places to Get Ice Cream in Stafford

One of my favorite things to do during summer is enjoy the local ice cream shops! Fredericksburg and Stafford have some of the best ice creams around, and I’ve put together a guide of some of the best places to get ice cream in Stafford and Fredericksburg!

Carl’s Frozen Custard

If you are looking for classic ice cream flavors, Carl’s Frozen Custard is the place for you! They have all of your favorites like chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry, as well as some more unique flavors like pistachio and mint chocolate chip. And their shakes are to die for! Carl’s is located right in the heart of Downtown Fredericksburg, so it’s the perfect place to stop for a sweet treat while exploring downtown. Founded in 1947, Carl’s Frozen Custard’s building is now part of the Virginia Historical Society and is labeled a Historic Landmark!

Their recipe has remained the same throughout the years, and they even use some of the original equipment from 1947! How cool is that? The history and quality make Carl’s one of the best places to get ice cream in Stafford!

The Sweet Shoppe

The Sweet Shoppe is a local ice cream shop in Stafford that has been around for over 30 years! They have a wide variety of flavors to choose from, as well as milkshakes, sundaes, and banana splits. The best part about The Sweet Shoppe? They have a flavor of the week, so you can always try something new!

This week’s flavor is Cookies and Cream, but some of my other favorites include Peanut Butter Cup and Salted Caramel. If you are looking for a place to take your kids, The Sweet Shoppe also has an old-fashioned soda fountain where they can get ice cream floats. The family environment and the ever-changing flavors are just two small reasons The Sweet Shoppe is one of the best places to get ice cream in Stafford!

Moo Thru

Moo Thru is an ice cream shop located in both Fredericksburg and Remington that specializes in hormone-free and antibiotic-free ice cream. They have a wide variety of flavors to choose from, as well as milkshakes, floats, and sundaes. My favorite flavor is Oreo Overload, but they also have some unique flavors like Peanut Butter Fudge and Brownie Batter. If you are looking for an ice cream shop with a little bit of everything, Moo Thru is the place for you!

The Battlefield Country Store

The Battlefield Country Store is hands down one of the best places to get ice cream in Stafford. They have over 60 flavors of ice cream to choose from, as well as a wide variety of toppings and mix-ins. They also have soft serve, frozen yogurt, and gelato! And if you are looking for something to do while you are there, they have an outdoor seating area with games like cornhole and ping pong. Messick Farm Market is a local farm market in Catlett that also has an ice cream shop! They have over 24 flavors of ice cream, as well as milkshakes, sundaes, and banana splits. My personal favorite flavor is their Blueberry Cheesecake, but they also have some unique flavors like Peach Cobbler and Peanut Butter Fudge. The best part about Messick Farm Market’s ice cream? It’s all made with local ingredients! So you know you are getting a quality product when you buy from them.
